“…a schism in American Modern Orthodoxy will have grave consequences both practically AND ideologically for both conservative and liberal sides of the community”

I think a schism in American Modern Orthodoxy will have grave consequences both practically AND ideologically for both conservative and liberal sides of the community. Not only because we’re already enmeshed in the same schools and shuls, not only because some people find themselves smack dab in the center, not only because MO itself is too statistically small to sustain such a split, but also…because each side left to its own devices, without balance, without tension, without pushback, will naturally become more fundamentalist in its own values and perspectives.
