Many Christians don’t know the Bible, nor do they care to know the Bible. American Christianity is generally not a religion of scholarship. It’s a religion of feeling and emotion. At least they are honest about that part of their religion. So all American Christianity has to do is say that these issues “don’t undermine our connection to God or undo our religious experiences.” It should mean the beginning of the end of stupid politicians who know nothing about their religion using faith to justify or condemn subjective matters and selectively applying the Bible to support one version of American politics. It’s much harder to do that when everyone knows you’re just making things up and the socio-religious benefits of religious-based politics are too minimal to outweigh the cognitive dissonance.
