“…criticizing people based on what they don’t say is lousy, and more often leads to the rhetorical performance of politics than actual meaningful organizing”

I think the business of criticizing people based on what they don’t say is lousy, and more often leads to the rhetorical performance of politics than actual meaningful organizing. Contesting the silence of others without interrogating the work that may be taking place below the surface is just another form of litmus testing, cultivating outrage and not necessarily enlisting support for the cause. And when would we all not fail here and there for being silent on one issue or another when others expect our voice?
